During our recent appearance on the wildly popular podcast Hugs and Disses, we performed a Guided By Voices song from the album Alien Lanes called “As We Go Up We Go Down.” The song is now available for you to watch on the YouTube. James would like to point out that due to the vagaries of podcasting and/or radio sessions in general, the vocal level in his headphones was really high so he thought he was singing a lot louder than he really was, which if you ask me is a lame excuse, but there you have it.
This was the first song James recorded with his old band. He sang harmonies and played bass on the original version. He is doing neither here.
Quick updates: as the above more-than-slightly-embarrassing press release details (click on the release for more info) Detective will be playing Thursday March 8 at Slake After Dark, a monthly series hosted by LA’s finest new literary magazine at Atwater Crossing. The performance will be semi-acoustic due to the limitations of the venue, which is what promoters often like to call “intimate.” The event is free, though it’s a good idea to RSVP at the link here to ensure safe passage through the throng of hipsters. Some guy will also be reading from his books or stories or something.
We will have copies of our limited edition EP Very Fallen World for sale at the event. We will sign them for you if you are nice and maybe if you have a pen that would be helpful, too. In a few years these will be worth handfuls of dollar bills, so get yours now.
Detective is also performing on an upcoming edition of the immensely popular (and rightly so!) Hugs and Disses podcast. We’re recording the session Tuesday March 6, but given the vagaries of technology and its inefficient human interface, we’re not sure yet when the podcast will be available. Before the world ends, we hope.
