Here’s our new video. It’s for the song “Man Near the Surface of the Earth” from the album However Strange which you can listen to and download here or buy in the popular cassette format from Burger Records here.
The video is kind of an homage to the 1968 film The Swimmer starring Burt Lancaster, which was itself based on a story by John Cheever. We’re very grateful to director Robert Sobul and his team for making this for us. Guylaine and James even have a brief cameo a few minutes in! Sadly Chris could not make it to the shoot that day because he was busy counting stacks of gold coins in his castle. That has a moat.

No way I can’t share this one — though I think it’s 1987!

Videodrome :: Kevin Coyne – I Want My Crown, 1973
…this videos is taken from the The Old Grey Whistle Test.

This might be another still from our upcoming video but no one ever tells us anything.
Monochrome Girl
The clip for “Monochrome Girl” by L.A.’s Détective is shot beautifully (in part at Columbus, Ohio’s North Market), complementing the song’s lovely lo-fi, Forsteresque melancholy. Oh, and if you follow them on Tumblr you’ll learn a great deal about the history of cinema. Their Basket of Masks EP is out now.
Here’s the official video for our song “Monochrome Girl” from the EP Basket of Masks. It’s available on vinyl or as a free download (with bonus tracks!) from Bandcamp. The video was directed by Mike Postalakis and we are big fans of Mike Postalakis and of this video. We hope you enjoy it.
V-Day
As in “video day.” We could also call this R-Day since the video is for the song “Rhodesian Man” but since we called yesterday “R-Day” already (because we went to pick up our record), we thought that would be confusing.
In any case: here’s the official video for the song “Rhodesian Man” from the EP Basket of Masks which is currently available and shipping if you go here.
The video was directed by a talented up-and-coming filmmaker named Robert Sobul. We think Robert did a great job given the limitations we posed on him (no nudity!), and hope you enjoy the result as much as we do. Not that we’ll ever watch it again. Nobody likes to look at themselves. Well, some people do. Deeply weird people.
Hi. It’s us. Deective. Uh. Detective. No. One more time. Détective. Yeah. How are you? Here’s what we do on Sunday nights at 2 AM, what about you? Please feel free to let us know in the comments. What’s the deal with comments, does anyone know? Like, comments, what are they good for? Anything? Cool.
